What does a Special Education Teacher do?
A special education teacher provides additional teaching support to children or young people attending mainstream classes who have been identified as having special educational needs.
The role of the Special Education Teacher includes:
– Promote inclusive whole-school teaching and learning approaches
– Use evidence-informed teaching and learning approaches
– Develop student support files and student support plans with other teachers
– Provide support in many ways such as in-class, small groups and 1:1 support
– Work with parents, guardians, the child or young person, other relevant teachers and staff and the school principal
– Work with agencies and services outside of the school as needed.
– Engage in teacher professional learning to develop their teaching skills and stay up to date with best practice
