Deirbhile Nic Craith

Deirbhile Nic Craith is Director of Education and Research and Assistant General Secretary with the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO). She started off her career as a primary teacher in Dublin, before spending a few years as head of GAELSCOILEANNA, prior to her appointment with the INTO. She has responsibility in the INTO for education matters and directs the annual Consultative Conference on Education and the biennial Conference on Special Education for members.

She was INTO Equality Officer between 1996 and 2002. Her current remit includes curriculum and assessment, inclusion (special education /educational disadvantage), early childhood education, and Gaeilge.

She has represented the INTO on external bodies such as the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and an Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta. She is also editor of the Irish Teachers’ Journal. In addition to her B.Ed, she holds a Masters and PhD in education from University College Dublin.
