Deirbhile Nic Craith
Deirbhile Nic Craith is the Director of Education and Research and Assistant General Secretary with the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO). She started her career as a primary school teacher in Dublin, before spending a few years as the Head of Gaelscoileanna, before joining the INTO.
She is responsible in the INTO for education matters and directs the yearly Consultative Conference on Education and the Conference on Special Education for members, which takes place every two years.
Her current role includes the areas of:
– Curriculum and assessment
– Inclusion (special education and educational disadvantage)
– Early childhood education
– The Irish language
She was INTO Equality Officer between 1996 and 2002. She has represented the INTO on external bodies such as the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and an Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta.
She is also Editor of the Irish Teachers’ Journal. In addition to her Bachelor of Education, she holds a Master’s Degree and PhD in Education from University College Dublin.
